A whip smacks his face,
And sends him falling to the floor.
The tears streaming down his face asking,
“What did I do?”
“What did I do to upset you?”
Everyday,
Is the same routine.
The bruising and pain settles in,
As the monster leaves the room.
And he lies there,
And wonders,
“Am I the only one?”
Am I the only one,
That has nowhere to go?
No place to be welcomed,
And no love to be shown?
Am I the only boy,
That feels all alone?
The one that cries during school,
And gets bullied for it?
Am I the only one,
To feel so much hate.
To come home everyday,
And look into those drunken eyes?
Am I the only one,
To get abused at home?
To come into school with bruising on my arms,
And nobody to help me?
And there you see him on the floor,
Tears falling to the ground.
You don’t walk in,
Or make a sound.
You just sit in your chair,
Trying not to care.
Just sit there,
With the beer in your hands,
And with your eyes full of hate.
Don’t sit there,
And take a moment,
To wonder,
“What have I done?”

ReplyDeleteTaylor! This is such a well written poem. Obviously, it's a tragic topic, abuse. Good use of repetition on "Am I the only one..." it brings power to your piece. The last part of your poem really is strong too, the person sees this happen, and it is continuous, they could have said something, and helped him. Very strong poem :) Great job.
ReplyDelete[Sorry I deleted my other comment, it's the same thing, but I wanted to add something, but I couldn't find the 'edit' button, haha, sorry!]
Very well written!:D
